Product Description SO DEAR TO MY HEART is a lesser-known Disney film released three years after "Song Of The South". It's one of Walt's loveliest films, with several scenes brilliantly combining live-action with animation as in the previously-mentioned film. A little boy raises a black lamb to enter at the fair. The lamb gets into a lot of mischief, and the boy learns some valuable lessons. Great performances by always-reliable Beulah Bondi and Harry Carey. Great technicolor too! What is loveable and most memorable about the film is Burl Ives and his singing voice. His songs here include the Oscar-nominated "Lavender Blue" and his duet with Beulah Bondi "Billy Boy". Bobby Driscoll (Jeremiah) endures as an immortal child actor of the past. This film, along with "Treasure Island", really captures and portrays his true talents. Walt Disney discovered him and Luana Patten in the '40s, and they starred together in "Song Of The South" and this film. They were the first child actors put under contract at Walt Disney's studio. The film also makes a very interesting study of the Disney creative process and how it gained momentum from the period between post-WWII to the opening of Disneyland in 1955 which led to the Disney explosion afterwards. The animation sequences are top-drawer from all the master genius animators, technicians and vocal contributors in residence at Walt Disney Studios of the 1940's. This craftsmanlike quality of animation is so much of a museum piece by the plethora of today's computer animation, but will always endure as the standard by which all other animation styles compare. The innnocence and country charm of a bygone era of American life will attract and delight film buffs everywhere seeking to enjoy the simple and obvious charms of this family classic found in SO DEAR TO MY HEART.
