Editorial Review The Heroscape line of toys is like the all-star game of make believe. While other games might focus on a specific era of history, the age of chivalry, perhaps, or the Jurassic period, Heroscape puts everyone together on one enormous madcap battlefield. Vikings, World War II soldiers, ninjas, mutant monsters, samurais, dinosaurs, dragons, they're all there, done up as tiny, highly detailed figure. It would be sort of comic if all the players didn't look so gosh-darn serious. 85 interlocking terrain tiles are also included so you can craft exactly the landscape you wish for all the action to happen on. Multiple dice are featured along with game cards and detailed instructions on how to play. We liked the boundless imagination of this game and the open-minded versatility of its imaginary protagonists. --Charlie Williams
Amazon.com Product Description The Heroscape line of toys is like the all-star game of make believe. While other games might focus on a specific era of history, the age of chivalry, perhaps, or the Jurassic period, Heroscape puts everyone together on one enormous madcap battlefield. Vikings, World War II soldiers, ninjas, mutant monsters, samurais, dinosaurs, dragons, robots, they're all there, done up as tiny, highly detailed figures. It would be sort of comic if all the players didn't look so gosh-darn serious. First, design the 3D landscape of your choice by laying out any combination of the 85 interlocking, plastic hex-shaped pieces. The fact that these can be assembled and stacked in new ways each game means the ensuing battle also changes every time you play. The above mentioned fantasy heroes and historical warriors now converge on your newly created terrain to move, attack, and defend. Multiple dice and game cards indicate combat powers and movement abilities. | | Just a few of the 30 included figures that Heroscape offers. | While there is an included rule book that offers up two game variations (one for players under 8 years of age), we like the boundless imagination of this game and the open-minded versatility of its imaginary protagonists. There is also a battlefield/scenario book that shows five battlefields and how to build them and offers up variation on game objectives. You can decide to make the winning goal opponent elimination, moving to a specific hex, protecting a figure on the board, or something else entirely. What's In the Box - 30 painted figures

Love it! October 16, 2008 W. Reedy (CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We love this game! It replaced another we had given away! Fantastic game and plays well!
Lots of fun July 21, 2008 B. Casey My kids really love this game ... they are too young to actually play the full game but they love setting up the hexes into different configurations and putting the characters on it. Both my son (7) and daughter (5) enjoy it.
This is the best day ever... June 23, 2008 kkb (Iowa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best day ever....
...so said my 7 year old son, right before going to bed, having received Heroscape: Rise of the Valkyrie earlier in the day.
We purchased Heroscape several months ago but hadn't planned to give it to him until late July, but with the prospect of being cooped up for a three-day weekend (due to a tornado/thunderstorm cancelled camping trip), the timing just seemed right. It turned out to be a great decision as we had a great time.
One of the best parts was seeing each eureka moment, such as, "aha, if I move my Zettian Guards backwards, you won't be able to get to me next time" or "so if you're going against DW9K you'll want to spread your guys apart". There really are many great opportunities to learn, especially for a 7 year old: addition, subtraction, reading, complex idea formation, not to mention sportsmanship.
I can't say if I had more fun playing Heroscape myself or simply seeing how much fun my boy was having.
We've had the game a month now and the replay value is extremely strong. I was told just this morning that Heroscape is his favorite game.
I highly recommend this game for 8 years(some 7 year olds)and up. I must admit I really enjoy playing it myself (I'm 39) due to the strategic elements involved; we simply handicap the game to promote play balance. Great for spending time together. Great game.
Great for pre-teen boys June 18, 2008 Colorado Mom (Highlands Ranch, CO) I bought this for my 9 and 11 year old sons. They have loved it. THe games has two levels of play and they have played the simple version. THe pieces are wonderfully detailed plastic, not cardboard cutouts. Defintely a keeper!
Great board game May 3, 2008 Atticus Bailey (Patchogue, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well this is one of those board games that might just become a timeless classic. It is a fun game for many ages.
Pros 1. The game never becomes boring since you can create different landscapes, battles, scenarios, and add new things. In fact half the fun is setting up the land.
2. The game is flat out fun to play for kids and parents.
3. I find the game to actually be pretty educational for kids. You have to strategize, plan, design, predict, and think.
Cons 1. the game takes up a lot of space and takes a lot of time to play. Therefore this game has to be played over a few days and is not a great game for young kids who tire easily.
2. The hasbro company keeps selling more and more expensive add ons, so if your son or daughter really gets into this game be prepared to spend more.
3. A parent will need to help kids play the first few times to understand the rules because they can be a little complicated.
This can really be a great family game and I recommend it
