4 out of 5 stars One heck of a solid RTS   November 1, 2008

This game is just awesome. The graphics are so so compared to others but it really makes up for it in the diversity of the factions. No faction is alike whatsoever. No copy/paste going on here. There are so many ways to crush your opponent which makes the replay value extremley high. I play this online with friends i know or friends i made online and it just makes a great time. Unfortunately I had to give it 4 stars though (i really didn't want to) but I just clearly can't say it's a perfect game (hence 5/5 stars would say its perfect). The reason being the graphics could have been better as stated before. The story lines, not great. No cutscene acting like other command and conquer games. And when playing online, sometimes the servers are down and you can't sign on for the longest time. Also when a friend makes a game room online it takes forever to see it come up. Other than these flaws, the game sure does make up for it. Flawed, but near perfect game. I will continue to play it for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars The benchmark against which all RTS games should be measured   June 10, 2008

This is an awesome game. Hands-down, it is the most replayable in the Command and Conquer family, and it gets RTS right. Every RTS game to come out after C&C:Generals and Zero Hour will be compared to them.

The forces are balanced to a point. If you play effectively as any of the three factions, you will be able to tailor your strategy to beat any opponent.

The Global Liberation Army is comprised of psychotic fanatics hell-bent on chemically poisoning the world - complete with evil laughter, pointed comments, and grassroots tech tree that relies on stealth and surprise. The People's Army of China are determined, methodical, and sometimes a little tyrannical in their overwhelming firepower. The cocky US military are like a bunch of tech-savvy cowboys who thrive on new gadgets.

This is the first C&C to be in true 3-D. Soldiers can enter buildings (as well as torch them) - but US forces can rappel by copter into them, taking the buildings floor-by-floor. GLA "martyrs" can create car bombs and drive them at high speeds into enemy forces. Terrain becomes a factor, especially with Chinese inferno tanks and migs that create firestorms to burn swaths of enemy land.

While the missions for Generals are too few (only 7 or 8 for each faction), the Zero Hour expansion pack adds more playability with more deeply interactive environments (ie, snipers shoot at your forces from overhead rail bridges, while minarets tumble after being damaged sufficiently) and sub-factions. My favorite is the Chinese nuke general - whose migs drop tactical nukes instead of napalm.

So yes, this game is devious, clever, and about the most enjoyable RTS I've played since the 1998 release Total Annihilation (which is still fun, despite the VGA graphics).
