When I heard that Dogz was coming out with a new and 'updated' version of the original game, I went out and bought it for my pc, along with the new version of Catz. However, what I found was that while the graphics are much better than the old versions, there is really nothing to do with your petz. You can no longer have petz running around together, there is not any way to grow your puppy/kitten to an adult, no breeding the animals,(your Catz and Dogz can't interface either) and not even the toys were better....if you can't play fetch with it, the pet just chews on it. It is a little like The Sims, in that you have a bar that shows the status of your pet, but you don't work very hard to keep it up. Other than competing in talent shows and buying things...this game is BORING. Unless you have a small child who can actually spend time teaching a virtual animal tricks, I would not recommend this game.

Very entertaining for youngters. A bit easy for and just a novelty for the elders. The music can be a bit obnoxious after awhile, so make sure the speakers are turned down low.
 If you're over the age of 7, stick with Petz 5. January 18, 2007

I'm a big Petz fan...I've played every version since the original Dogz way back when. And I have to say, this is the first version that ever completely disappointed me. The graphics are much more realistic, to be sure, but I think the cartoonish ones in earlier versions were actually much cuter. And yes, a few mini-games have been added, but the additions scarcely make up for what they've taken away.
For example, only one pet can be out at a time. You can also no longer breed the petz, which, in my opinion, was the most fun component of the game. Furthermore, there are far fewer clothes and other accessories, and most of these have to be unlocked by training you pet.
In the end, my worst complaint is the change in the format of the game. The appeal of Petz 1-5 was their replay value. It was cute to spend a few minutes each day just sitting back and watching, and the possibility for breeding and dressing up created endless possibilities. The new version is much more of a game than an open-ended simulation, a game that gets repetitive fairly quickly. If you have young children, it may be just the thing for them. If you're looking for an improved version of the old-school Dogz, then you might be better off giving this one a pass.

I would rate it a 2/5. It is much like nintendogs with a mix of the game that was only released in Japan (The Dog: Happy Life). It is quite repetative and there are only 5 breeds in the game. Nothing to unlock, only talent (obedience) shows and no walks. So I would say that if you really liked dogs, get it, but if they're so/so, then don't even bother. The graphics in the game are very good though.
i would rate it higher if there was more to do. once you get rich and get all the items, there is pretty much nothing to do. the tricks get annoying and even if the dog knows the tricks very well, when you need it to do the trick. most often, if will not do it. but even though it is annoying, it still gets you addicted if you like dogs, that is, and if you have a pretty big attention span. i got rich and everything within 2 days (and hour each day). i gave up. my friend has the game and it works withought a CD so i have it on my computer.

I was really very excited about this game. I'd been looking forward to its release since I read about its existence this summer, since I had been a fan of the franchise ever since the first game. Sure, I might be in my second decade now, but who can't appreciate a cute and responsive puppy running around on your computer screen? I know I can.
Unfortunately, this game is a giant leap backwards from, say, Dogz 5. Yes, they've updated the graphics. The dogs are no longer made of fuzzy balls attached to each other with lines -- they're way, way creepier now. Their weird not-quite verisimilitude is a whole ton less endearing than the cartoony style of the old games. The interactivity factor has been brought way down, too. The whole point of this game, it seems, is to teach your puppy tricks -- which takes all of about five minutes with the convenient "how to teach your pet tricks" instructions -- and compete with other dead-eyed puppies, thereby earning money to buy an extremely limited number of scary accessories and boring toys.
It used to be you could adopt multiple pets and they could play with each other. In this game, you can own multiple puppies, but there's never more than one out at once. I know I couldn't play it for very long, but it looks like they never grow up beyond the puppy stage, either. Half the fun of the old Dogz games (once the feature was implemented) was breeding your favorite pets and getting puppies.
The past Dogz games truly were for everyone, but Dogz 2006 is a game for children. And those children had better have some awesome attention spans, because it gets really old really fast. It's just bad. And I'm just disappointed.
