Product Description Compact and high-performance, this standard lens is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). Its Gaussian optics provides sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.
Amazon.com Product Description Lightweight and affordable, the Canon EF 50mm lens--which offers a fast f/1.8 aperture--is an excellent lens for people who prefer a fixed focal length. Canon's lightest EF lens at a mere 4.6 ounces, the lens boasts a traditional Gauss-type optical design that delivers a sharp performance even when wide open. As a result, the lens provides an image that's extremely close to how your eye perceives a subject, making it excellent for portraits and images that require a natural depth of field. In addition, the lens focuses as close as 18 inches, helping you take extreme close-ups. Finally, the lens offers an excellent color balance. As with all Canon lenses, the lens carries a one-year warranty. - Focal length: 50mm

Performs like a much more expensive lens! August 21, 2008 Fuad Huseynov (Baki, Azerbaijan) Got this lens about a month ago from Amazon. Flawless service from them as always. Thank you.
The lens itself is outstanding. True: the construction could be better, but for its price, the quality of the photos are great. Even more. If you have a Canon, and can't afford or simply do not wish to spend more (quality of the more expensive EF 50mm/1.4 is a bit better) - get this lens. It will make you happy. ;-)
Great Lens! August 20, 2008 J. Penos Don't let the price or the plastic body fool you-- this is a great lens that takes great shots. I am still learning the ins and outs of shooting with a DSLR and this lens makes my shots look like a pro. The only complaint is having to zoom with you feet, so it's not as handy when taking group photos, but if you've got the patience to compose your subjects without the ability to zoom easily it's not an impossible feat. Worth every penny.
Great lens for the price! August 20, 2008 Fotogal I literatly just got this lens about an hour ago delivered to my work, I shot a couple pics and couldn't believe the quality considering my kit lens that came with my Canon Rebel XTi is junk. For the price this lens is a definitly good purchase. I've read that it falls apart after normal use but totally worth it if you can get a couple months of nice pictures.
Excellent lens August 16, 2008 Martin W. Naugher (Linden, VA USA) As usual, Canon puts out an excellent product. The vendor shipped the lens out to me on schedule and I had it when they said I would
Thanks.
It's alright... August 16, 2008 Carolin Y. Elsey-lawton (Georgia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't really care for this lens. The build doesn't bother me, it just doesn't seem like it was all the everyone raved about. I've used it at weddings and portrait sessions and again...no big deal.
