Infuser very poorly designed September 26, 2008 Mary Beth Hickcox-Howard (Austin, Texas) The teapot is sturdier than I expected and has survived a lot of use, but I would never buy it again. Sure, clear glass is a nice medium if you want to use tea flowers like the ones that come in the set, but the glass infuser is a disaster. The tea is supposed to brew through four sets of slits in the bottom, which get clogged easily, are difficult to clean, and don't allow enough water to flow through. The tiny slits make it hard to fill the teapot because the infuser can't drain into the pot fast enough. To fill the teapot with tea in the infuser, I have to pour in water, wait as it slowly drains through into the pot out of the infuser, pour in more water, wait, pour in more water and wait, and then pour in the final bit of water. When I try to pour the tea, the lid and infuser fall out, so I have to hold them on or remove them. Tea leaves get wedged in the slits and have a hard time getting them back out when I wash it.
The one big upside is that it is very lightweight for a teapot this size. Plus, if you generally use tea flowers or bagged tea, this teapot will work just fine for you. It really is dishwasher safe even on the bottom rack. It will also survive rapid temperature changes, like dropping a bunch of ice into hot tea.
Flowering Tea Set September 18, 2008 M. Barnes (Claremont, CA) I love this tea pot and tea. The flowering tea is absolutely beautiful, the tea tastes good, and being able to sip tea while looking at this beautiful flower is a very soothing and enriching experience. I only used it once to test it out because the weather has been very hot here but I can't wait for the cool weather to put on a pot of tea, light some candles, and cozy up to a nice fire. This will definitely be a wonderful winter ritual. I highly recommend this set.
Buy it now! September 14, 2008 Yasmeen Mandour-Brackin I have never had a glass tea pot nor bought flowering teas before this set; now I can't see why I waited so long. The truly wonderful part about this teapot is that it is microwave safe, so I can heat up my water at work in it and just drop a flowering tea bud in. The glass is perfectly clear. Filled not quite to the top, the teapot held a hefty five cups worth, despite looking just a bit too small to possibly hold that much. It will make the cutest addition to my desk.
I love this pot so much I am succumbing to what every other reviewer is doing, and buying it for gifts.
Beautiful Teapot and it Works Great with Loose Leaf Tea September 1, 2008 Jim Francis (Miami/London/Negril) I picked up one of these at my local supermarket (it was absolutely irresistable)along with some loose leaf Jasmine tea - Wow! It has definite health benefits - after drinking a couple of teapots full over a couple of days - I felt a lot healthier - maybe it's the anti-oxidants in the tea... here's a link to the actual tea: The Tao Of Tea Hand Crafted Green Tea Jasmine Pearls Mou Li Hua Cha, 4-Ounce Tin (Pack of 2)
TIP: The instructions say DO NOT pour boiling hot water onto the tea because it "burns" the tea and makes it bitter. It says you should wait about 2 minutes, for it to cool very slightly THEN pour it.
I tried this and YES! there is a HUGE taste difference when you pour boiling water - the tea does taste bitter... amazing eh?
This tea pot is very beautiful and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Lovely teapot, beautiful blooms! August 24, 2008 Marilyn Falcon (Southeastern Michigan, USA) I love a good pot of tea, and this wonderful set provides beauty to the brewing process, beyond compare. I really love the glass teapot and infuser, it is just the right size, and this gift set is great because it comes with a cannister of twelve flowering teas (with many varied flowers!), so you can use it the minute you open the box!
I gave this set a five star rating mostly based on the teapot itself, and on the entire blooming tea experience. For my tastes, I must warn you that the Primula Jasmine green tea that comes with the set has very little, if any, jasmine flavor. I am used to using a good quality jasmine pearl green tea (such as Rishi, but there are many other brands which you can also purchase here on Amazon in the grocery department), so I enjoy a healthy amount of jasmine flavor in my tea.
I am not saying that the green tea that comes with this set is poor quality, just that it is extremely weak in jasmine flavor. In truth, I couldn't even detect it at all. So the experience of the tea for me is closer to just drinking a decent quality Chinese green tea, without any flavor enhancers. If I was rating the jasmine tea that comes with the set, I would only give the tea three stars, by itself. I am going to shop around and perhaps try some of the other blooming tea brands to see if I can find one that more closely matches my own taste.
Despite that, I am very happy that I purchased this lovely set, and I am just about to buy another one as a gift for favorite sister-in-law. Enjoy!
