Product Description

Kev Merripen has longed for the beautiful, well-bred Winnifred Hathaway ever since her family rescued him from the brink of death when he was just a boy. But this handsome Gypsy is a man of mysterious origins—and he fears that the darkness of his past could crush delicate, luminous Win. So Kev refuses to submit to temptation…and before long Win is torn from him by a devastating twist of fate.

Then, Win returns to England…only to find that Kev has hardened into a man who will deny love at all costs. Meantime, an attractive, seductive suitor has set his sights on Win. It’s now or never for Kev to make his move. But first, he must confront a dangerous secret about his destiny—or risk losing the only woman he has lived for…

4 out of 5 stars Lisa at her Almost Best   January 1, 2009
B. Carter
This wasn't her best book, in my opinion, I perfer characters like Lord St. Vincent in "Devil in Winter". But the Roms in this book and the first (Mine Till Midnight) are interesting and the heroes the type of men who make your heart melt.

However, I did not give this 5 stars for two reasons. First, for those of you who aren't too familiar with Ms. Kleypas's work, she has a tendency to finish off a B-story line quickly at the end of a book, and she did it here. SMALL SPOILERS ALERT...WARNING....the hero of this book, Kev, and the hero of the last book, Cam, find a missing relative and quick as a wink, Kev gets a fairy tale ending. But this is done in the last 20 or so pages after stringing it along through the whole book. Second, the entire book flips back and forth through POV of different characters. Even though this is Kev and Win's story, we get more story of Cam and Ameila (the couple in Mine till Midnight), and we get set up for Leo's story in the next book with Ms. Marks (the governess). I was always told never to flop POV's but I guess once you sell books in 14 different languages that rule flies out the door.

Actually, these negatives aren't so bad. If you are new to Lisa's books then they can be vexing, but overall, this was a nice romance. I enjoyed it and I think you will too.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! Sexy Romance!   December 24, 2008

Ok men, if you are smart, you'll buy this for your wife. She will thank you in ways you will love. Interesting story. Problem is these books ruin us for wanting to experience love with a Merripen. (yes, try finding a guy like him)!! But if you like romance novels, and a sexy read, this book is for you.

I loved this book from the first chapter. I think I cried before I was 15 pages in. The story was well paced and as believable as a romance novel could be. I also thought it was a love story between 2 brothers and the family.

5 out of 5 stars Passionate   December 11, 2008

I think that this is one of the hottest books that LK has written and I think I've read all of her books. I couldn't wait to read Merripen and Win's story and I was not disappointed.
Merripen has loved Win since they were children. She is everything to him even though he feels he has nothing to offer her. None of this matters to Win because she has also loved Merripen since they were also children. Once she returns from France healthy and vibrant, Merripen has a very hard time denying her.
The intimate parts of the books are steamy and tender. I can't wait for the next book!
